We Are Not Princesses is a documentary film that was shot over three months in the Autumn of 2014. The film stems from Antigone of Syria, an eight-week drama workshop in Lebanon with 35 Syrian women from the Sabra, Shatila, and Bourj el-Barajneh refugee camps. The workshops culminated in three performances at Al Madina Theatre in Hamra, Beirut in December 2014.

Our primary aim in Beirut was to introduce theatre and art to socially, economically and culturally marginalised Syrian women refugees. Through the medium of theatre these women had an opportunity to express themselves fully without restriction or judgement. The performances gave an insight into their hopes, fears and struggles, and in turn were intended to provide inspiration to others in a similar position.
